Joie de Vivre, Mary Sparrow, 2016
Welcome to Mary Sparrow's Insiders group, everyone! My name is Geoff, pronounced "Joff," but with a funny spelling. I am Mary Sparrow's husband and a self-appointed journalist with aspirations to write on various facets of Mary's artwork. Why me? Mary loves her art world, but the truth is that she dislikes talking about it. From my perspective, her art, the people who have inspired it, the themes on which it is focused, her admiration for her followers, and her future intentions are all hidden stories. I want to share these stories with you.
You are receiving this email because you are a member of what I call the 1% group. More than 163,000 individuals from all over the world are currently following Mary’s art on Facebook. You are the 1% of her followers on Facebook that have either taken the time to subscribe to her website, Marysparrow.com, or have purchased her art at some point in the past. I want to thank you.
As most of you are already aware, Mary frequently posts new and older versions of her artwork on Facebook. While her posts are frequent and varied, it seems that many of her Facebook followers may not be aware of her interests in art or the numerous projects she is working on. For instance, she has developed a variety of art series over the years that have included, to mention a few, floral artwork, vintage artwork, landscapes, and clouds. In addition to using oils, Mary enjoys using gouache and pastels in her work. Recently, she has worked with specialized clays to make jewelry and beautiful flower panels.
The truth is, revealing specifics about her work, interests in art, or love for art does not naturally lend itself to Facebook. So, I've made the decision to create a Substack page to talk about her work and provide the details that would otherwise be lost. In support of my vision, I'm reaching out to you. the 1% group. My intention is to share the details of Mary’s artwork—what inspires her, what challenges her, and even what frustrates her as an artist. Consider it the inside scoop on Mary’s world as an artist.
As a result, this will be a sort of voyage where I'll tackle various topics and provide my perspective as a close observer—the so-called first row seat. You have my word that I will give you as close a view as I am able to in order to give you a glimpse of Mary's creative world up close and from a very different angle than what you will see on her Facebook page. I hope you like it, and I'd appreciate any feedback or comments. Watch for upcoming newsletters to read more information and see stuff about Mary's creative world that is only accessible here on Substack.
Love Mary Sparrow’s work!!
This is incredibly exciting!!!
